'The potassium crown - Medea's wedding present'

This painting is inspired by Greek mythology. Maura employed 3D modelling software to construct the scene. The painting depicts Medea's vengeance on her lover Jason, who, after all Medea's done for him, abandons her to marry another woman. 

Medea feels lonely, unappreciated, used and indignant. She is going to revenge herself on king Jason and his bride. In the artist's imagination, Medea brings a rather peculiar wedding present to the marriage celebration: a crown of potassium. This metal produces an exothermic reaction upon contact with water: it combusts. Checkmate!  What happens when feelings are bottled up for too long? At some moment there will be a sudden outbreak of passion. This painting sees unpleasant, 'evil' feelings such jealousy and hate, as originating in isolation and emotional want. Maura treats this subject with characteristic playfulness and humour.
